How do I meditate?
There are many ways to meditate. Some sit cross legged on the floor or in a chair, but I choose to do it laying down in bed. That is the place where I feel the most comfortable and relaxed and it is perfect for my morning meditations when I try to practice before I get out of bed, first thing in the morning. I also believe in using headphones to meditate when I am doing guided meditations as I feel more connected when the sound is directly in my ears.
How often do I meditate?
I usually aim for 1-2 meditations a day, with my first one being in the morning and my second in the mid-day or evening before bed. I also try to meditate for at least 10 minutes each time.
Other tips for meditation newbies:
Don’t put too much pressure on your meditation. Like anything, meditation takes practice. It is a normal human experience if you are having trouble quieting your mind. When you hear your thoughts coming in, gently acknowledge them and let them know you are taking some time to quiet your mind.
When you are having trouble just result back to following your breath.
HAVE FUN! Be optimistic and enjoy this new practice. The more fun you make it, the more often you will do it and it will become a part of your daily routine.
